This was an experiment to get a quick finish. On four scraps of vellum I did the ink drawing, some half-tone shadow, some 5 o'clock shadow, and some... blush, I don't know. Then as multiplied layers in photoshop it was easy to change colors around and stuff. I also got rid of the contour lines around the face which helped a lot. And usually I try to keep some of the paper grain texture, but this time I got each layer really cleaned up and then added the noise filter. I always thought the filters were for hacks, but I'm getting older now I guess. What-ehva wourks!

Pulque is this fermented cactus sap that tastes like a thick viscous sour foamy I-don't-know-what. I made these drawings because I had no idea what anyone was saying.

I think this'll be my last roll of film, it's been fun but it's awfully inconvenient in these modern times. One of my resolutions for 2011 is to embrace new technologies and not pretend to be such an old-timer. So look out, I'm looking at digital cameras. From the top: my back yard, the little house, new years eve, the only green grass I could find in Michigan, and my best friend Nate wearing who-knows-who's glasses.

Sometimes I make a painting and then don't ever want to see it again, which I kind of feel bad about because the majority of paintings never find good families and end up turning to a life of crime. So recently I have been making paintings with the sole intention of hanging them in my home right away. It's a good system because it takes the pressure off, knowing that no one will see it, but at the same time I am much more critical because I know I am going to have to look at it everyday. So here's a painting in the room I have been working on lately. It's not very informational; I basically just labeled everything you would learn in the first 5 minutes of 7th grade geography, but the intention was to add a little old school sophistication to a social space. It's still in progress, so let me know if you get any ideas.
